Blackjack is one of the most widely played games worldwide. Blackjack is believed to have originated in France in the 17th century. The game was initially known as “vingt et un” i.e. twenty & one. Like most of the games, the exact history of Blackjack is unknown. Some scholars and historians have studied the history of Blackjack but none of them have been able to come to any definite conclusion. Some believe that Blackjack was derived from similar French games.
Blackjack as a game is very popular amongst the Russians. It is known as “Twenty One” or “Ochko” i.e. (the hole). The game is extremely popular in the Russian Casinos as well as the local people who play it amongst themselves at home or cafes. Blackjack is also known as California Aces or Pontoon. Blackjack got its name form the French game where the player was required to draw an ace of spade and a jack of spade. Jack was the first card to draw and spades was black, and so it came to be known as Blackjack. Blackjack came to America only after the French Revolution. Soon it became a rage throughout America due to its spontaneity and flexibility.The experienced gamblers soon apprehended that Blackjack offered good scope for exploiting the bets and odds and mint some real good money. The game started spreading rapidly without any regulations and restrictions until the nineteenth century when the US government felt the need to regulate gambling to curtail the widespread crime and corruption. The game was initially banned and treated as a crime. Due to widespread protests later on, the government legalized gambling and framed laws for it. Las Vegas soon became the gamblers haven. Even so many illegal casinos flourishing all over the world and U.S, nothing can beat Las Vegas and Nevada. Blackjack is extremely popular at casinos all over the world in places like Canada, Europe, America and Russia. The advent of online casinos and online gambling has made Blackjack all the more famous worldwide.
