Roulette is considered to be Europe’s most popular, one of the most played and the most enjoyed game of chance.
Roulette means "small wheel" in French. It is said to have been pioneered by Blaise Pascal in and around the 17th century. Pascal’s "wheel", it is believed, to be a spin-off of his unending motion tactics.
Roulette finally made its way to the United States in the beginning of the 1800’s. On route, the game was upgraded and it expanded through and the double "00" system appeared again. Roulette created a huge hype and hysteria and excitement as well during the California Gold Rush, in the "old west" of America.
The Roulette wheel was very popular during the late 18th century. This was when Prince Charles introduced gambling to Monacco as means of getting rid of the financial problems of that particular region.
Of course, the modern or the upgraded version of the Roulette wheel did not arrive till about 1842. It was then that Frenchmen Francois and Louis Blanc brought about the single "0" roulette game.
It was ultimately brought to America in about the early 1800s. The modification of single "0" was, however, rejected in America. The two zeros "00" returned to the Roulette wheel instead.
The Roulette wheel gained huge popularity in America in the phase of the California Gold Rush. Frenchmen Francois and Louis Blanc conceptualized the sole "0" roulette. This was in 1842, but during that time in France, gambling was considered illegal. So, it was showcased in Hamburg, Germany.
