Glamorous beautiful women have always been a feature of Vegas. So it comes as no surprise that Hooters, the company famous for its busty waitresses has opened its first Las Vegas casino. What started off as a tongue-in-cheek chicken restaurant has grown into a global brand and has taken over the Hotel San Remo just off the Strip.
The 696-room property with nine restaurant/bars is a revamp of the Hotel San Remo and, despite its makeover, remains a midget compared with the 5,035-room MGM Grand across the street on a corner of the Strip that offers 14,000 hotel rooms.
The Hooters customer is already a Vegas kind of customer. They're a little punky, they're a little high energy, they're looking for a getaway — and all of those things just match up," said Ed Droste, one of the founders of Hooters.
It looks like a perfect fit for their existing clientelle - blue collar young and slightly tacky. The San Remo has been relatively quiet over the past few years and this complete rebrand is sure to get a lot more people through the doors. Many commnetators have suggested that this down market, unrefined approach might be exactly what Vegas punters are looking for. Only time will tell.
