The Latest on HR411 Internet Gambling Bill

 09/15/2006
As we all know and have been following in the internet sports, casino & poker industries, the Department of Justice in the USA have flexed their muscles for a second time this summer.

Last week the CEO of SportingBet was detained while crossing through the border in New York. Today, it was decided an extrodition will not be necessary and his trial will commence at the end of September. He was also given permission to travel back to the United Kingdom.

This past summer the Senate voted in majority to have a bill brought to Congress this fall. Throughout this whole ordeal, poker organizations, banks and casino lobbiests have indicated their displeasure for this bill for many reasons.

The catch is the internet gambling bill must be brought to the table in Congress by November or it will have to wait until 2007 and go through another vote in Senate.

The reality is the Banking Association which is a very powerful group in the US opposes this bill. If legislation was passed legalizing internet gambling, the United Stated Government would collect over $4 billion in taxes per year.

More in the coming weeks.
